Osmanthus Tea
Sweet Osmanthus (Osmanthus Fragrans) also known as Gui Hua, Jiu Li Xiang and Fragrant Olive, belongs to the Oleaceae family. It is an evergreen shrub native to Asia and blooms from the Himalayan East all the way through China to Japan. This 5-12m tall plant is valued for its delicate fruity-floral apricot aroma and therefore widely used as an additive to tea and other beverages in the far east.
Sweet Osmanthus is also the city flower of Guilin, China, which is home to many forests of this plant. In fact, the name Guilin means “Forest of Sweet Osmanthus”. Regarded by the Chinese as one of the 10 most famous flowers, its cultivation by the Chinese people dates back 2,500 years.
