Lemon Grass Tea
Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon Citratus), commonly known as Citronella Grass or Fever Grass is a genus of about 55 species of grass of the Poaceae family. Native to the warm temperate and tropical regions, it was discovered in North America as a natural caffeine-free herbal drink. This herb received its name “Lemon Grass” as its flavor tastes like a lemon and the plant itself resembles a piece of long bladed grass. This herb has been used for hundreds of years in Thailand and Vietnam as one of their most common flavourings to home made meals and in their herbal lemon grass tea.
Based on the knowledge of the indigenous people of the Amazon forest, the Amerindians, the Maroons and that of Asian immigrants, the century old Suriname’s traditional medicine tells of how lemon grass is used against cough, cuts, asthma, bladder disorder, diaphoretic and headaches.
